She holds a Doctorate of Philosophy and a Masters in Education from Howard University. She also earned a Bachelors of Science from University of Maryland College Park.

In addition to her education and training, she is a regular recipient of both national and international attention for her conference presentations, publications, and training materials. Her research has appeared in publications for The Centre for Policy and Practice, The Society for Prevention Research, and The Center for Substance Abuse and Prevention (CSAP). 

Dr. James is a dynamic individual who enjoys sharing her knowledge with others. She has worked with a diverse range of individuals and has previously held positions as a school and community based psychologist, positive behavioral support coach, senior program evaluator, and social science researcher.
 
Among her peers, Dr. James is highly regarded for her professionalism and innovation.
